Parents turn garage into ‘Club Quarantine’ for son’s 21st birthday
One family were determined to still celebrate their son’s milestone birthday in quarantine – so they decided to get creative.
The Torchia family, from New Jersey, U.S., pulled out all the stops to ensure their son Jack had a 21st birthday to remember.
Parents Anthony and Carolyn decided to turn their garage into ‘Club Quarantine’, complete with a bar, dance floor and ‘special guests’.
Jack’s 18-year-old sister, Emily, shared a video of the garage transformation on TikTok – she also acted a videographer, filming her brother as he entered the ‘club’.
But the family’s commitment to the celebration didn’t stop there.
In the footage, Anthony can be seen waiting outside Club Quarantine in sunglasses, acting as a bouncer. A sign behind him on the garage wall reads: ‘Must be 21 or older to enter.’
Upon Jack’s arrival, Anthony asks him for proof of his age, before proceeding to get his walkie talkie out as he checks the ID.
As Jack enters, mum Carolyn can be seen behind the bar and greets him by saying: ‘Welcome to Club Quarantine, what brings you here tonight?’
To which Jack replies: ‘It’s my 21st birthday.’
His mum then offers him a free ‘green tea’ shot, to mark the occasion.
Anthony and Carolyn even made sure Jack had extra ‘guests’ at his party. As the video continues, a cardboard cutout of Justin Bieber can be seen on the dance floor.
Emily told Buzzfeed News: ‘The night of [my brother’s] 21st was a great night. My mom and dad put in a lot of work to make sure it seemed as real as possible.
‘My mom even made my dad memorize lines! In fact, it made this time in quarantine easier.’
Her video – which has been viewed more than 5.3 million times and has 1.3 million likes – has received a plethora of positive comments, with many praising her parents’ effort.
Emily said: ‘The comments are full of positive words about my family and my great parents.
‘I always knew that they were great but the fact that over four million people saw this video and said the same is very heartwarming and something that my parents deserve as well’.
